Yoga offers proven benefits for the body and mind through cultivating flexibility, strength, balance, managing stress, and more. Dancing gives couples a lifelong hobby to share.
We'll get you started quickly and easily, even if you've never tried yoga before.
The classical techniques of Yoga date back more than 5,000 years. In ancient times, the desire for greater personal freedom, health and long life, and heightened self-understanding gave birth to this system of physical and mental exercise which has since spread throughout the world. The word Yoga means “to join or yoke together,” and it brings the body and mind together into one harmonious experience. The whole system of Yoga is built on three main structures: exercise, breathing, and meditation.
Vinyasa is a sanscrit word referring to breath or movement. The term covers a broad range of yoga classes. Compared to Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa is often considered more advanced and fast-paced. Instead of doing individual exercises on the mat with pauses in between, the asanas are linked together with the in-flow and out-flow of breath. The net result is increased body temperature which helps loosen the muscles. Participants find they can go into deeper stretches than doing postures in a more traditional way. Gentle Yoga class features the Iyengar and Yin styles, with focus on proper body alignment and use of props to aid students in achieving and experiencing asanas (poses) more easily and fully than might otherwise be possible without years of practice. Props also allow tired, ill, or injured students to enjoy the benefits of yoga via supported methods that allow for less muscular effort. This gentle style of yoga will allow students to relax into postures, facilitating muscle and connective tissue release while building strong and elongated muscle fibers of those muscle groups being activated to hold the pose. This non heated class is perfect for the absolute beginner, students with limited flexibility, or anyone looking for a relaxing exercise to aid in muscle strength, weight loss, physical and mental relaxation, etc. Youth Yoga class includes a variety of yoga styles including Vinyasa, Iyengar, Yin, and Partner yoga. Students will learn proper body alignment, breath control, exercises for flexibility and strength, and mental focus. Yoga is an ideal modality for building the proper framework and body positions for aspiring dancers and athletes of every kind. Students will find that they have a better ability to focus and perform tasks, control their mental and physical wellbeing, in addition to finding a new way to express themselves. All ages and ability levels welcome, just come with an open heart and an eagerness to learn!
No experience is necessary to take this class.
We do have students with multiple levels of skill participating in this class. Students are encouraged to participate to the best of their ability, and be respectful to the natural limitations of their own body.
Men and women of all ages are welcome in this class.
Yoga is a form of exercise that improves flexibility, stamina, muscle tone, strength, and can even increase mental clarity, productivity and self confidence. Yoga can increase circulation, reduce stress and fatigue, and help you relax bringing together mind, body and spririt.
Classes cost $15 to drop-in to a single day of class. Or you can purchase a series of 5 classes for $55. If it's your first day of class and you're not sure if you'll want to continue, it is OK to pay the drop-in fee and immediately after class, go to the front desk to pay for a 5 week series (which can be applied to the class you took that day). Your instructor will also have yoga mats available to rent for the hour if you do not have your own.
Arrive 5-10 minutes early. Sign in at the front desk, change clothes if necessary, and take a seat in the Champions ballroom. Instructor Jessica has sanitized yoga mats for rent ($2) on a first-come, first-served basis.
As class is almost ready to begin, you'll feel the temperature in the room rising. This is not a 105 degree hot yoga room, merely a toasty 80 degrees to relax the body and release toxins. Most of the heat generated in a typical Vinyasa class is internal body heat, which can make you sweat in class. Bring a towel for your comfort. Throughout class, you'll hear the soft voice of your teacher guiding you through your lesson. As you move from one pose to the next, you will be instructed to inhale or exhale. This technique is sometimes also called "Vinyasa Flow." Because of the smooth way each pose transitions to the next, it is like a dance. You can expect movement, not just stretching. Do each excersize to the best of your ability, and work within your own personal limits. Most important: enjoy your relaxing hour!
After class the flourscent lights will turn back up, and you'll leave with the benefits of low impact aerobic movement with improved muscle tone, endurance, strength and more.
