The new season of "Dancing With The Stars" began Monday March 17 on ABC Tuesdays 8-9:30pm (competition) and Tuesdays at 9-10pm (results). Celebrities paired with professional dancers compete against each other in various ballroom dances. Judges marks and audience votes determine which couple is voted off the program weekly. Viewers may also call or text in their votes.

Ballroom Dance Company owners instructors attended live broadcasts of several previous seasons in Hollywood.

The BBC Original Series

Three years before Dancing With The Stars was introduced in the USA, a show with an identical format called "Strictly Come Dancing" debuted on the BBC in the United Kingdom. We take lessons and compete in England and have absolutely loved watching the program there! The program continues to be wildly popular, and has single-handedly turned the professional dancers on the show into celebrities themselves! The BBC has broadcast other ballroom dance programs for years, including "Come Dancing" which aired for nearly 50 years. Dancing With The Stars is a wildly popular program across the world, with versions running in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovak Republic, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine and of course the United States.

This Seasons "Stars" include

Kristi Yamaguchi — Olympic champion figure skater (paired with Mark Ballas who returns for his second season).

Marlee Matlin — Academy Award winning deaf actress (paired with 1st-timer Fabian Sanchez, 2006 World Mambo Champion).

Monica Seles — Grand Slam tennis champion (partnered with Jonathan Roberts, who partnered with Marie Osmond last season).

Jason Taylor — Current NFL “Man of the Year” (partnered with Edyta Sliwinska, the only pro to compete in all six seasons of Dancing with the Stars).

Priscilla Presley — Elvis’ ex wife (paired with Louis van Amstel who returns for his fourth season — interestingly Priscilla refused to perform to any Elvis songs this season).

Shannon Elizabeth — Actress best remembered for her role as a sexy exchange student in the film American Pie (paired with Derek Hough, older brother of Dancing With The Stars alumni Julianne Hough).

Penn Jillette — Magician best known as part of the famous illusionist team Penn & Teller (paired with Kym Johnson, most memorably paired with Jerry Springer).

Adam Carolla — Radio Host & Comedian (paired with reigning two-time defending Dancing with the Stars champion Julianne Hough).

Mario — R&B star (paired with Karina Smirnoff who partnered with Mario Lopez for Season Three).

Steve Guttenbert — Movie Star (paired with Anna Trebunskaya who returns for her 3rd Season).

Marissa Jaret Winkour - Tony Award winning Broadway star, Marissa Jaret Winokur (paired with Tony Dovolani who returns for his fifth season).

Bruno Tonioli: Choreographer for contemporary gigs like films, plays, commercials

"The Professionals"

We've heard speculation as to why some professional dancers on the show may come across as arrogant. We know most of these dancers and can confirm from personal experience they are all exceptionally friendly, respectful, professional people. We suspect show producers put them up to making out-of-character statements for the camera to incite audience passion.

Ever wonder why the show appears to draw only B-List celebrities? Possibly it's due to the relatively low pay. Howard Stern revealed on his Sirius Satellite show that his girlfriend Beth Ostrosky was invited to appear on Dancing with the Stars third season this fall. Ostrosky was offered “a base of $125,000 for the first two weeks of the show,” plus “about $20,000 each week after, until they are voted off,” according to the New York Post. There’s a bonus of $50,000 “if the show is stretched to nine weeks — for an extra recap show.” Thus, that’s a maximum of “around $245,000 for eight weeks of work, according to the contract.” The professional dancers salary has reportedly gone up from $1000 per week to $5000 per week. They are still required to fully cater their schedule to the "stars" training needs during the run of the program.
